DRESSING UP FOR GROWN-UPS LESLEY’S TOP 10 FASHION TIPS The chances are, you already know what suits you. But sometimes we get stuck in a rut, not noticing how fashion (and our bodies) have changed. Luckily, style is not about age. It’s about confidence. 1. A PERFECT FIT. Start with your shape and have a bra fitting. Check out all your underwear for fit and size. 2. FIRST, GET COMFORTABLE. Comfort equals confidence. Never hold on to the size you used to be and don't be swayed by size labels. In some shops you may be a 10 and in others a 14, but try not to let this bother you – you can always cut out the label! 3. FASHION WORTH FOLLOWING. You don’t need to give up fashion. You just need to work harder at it. Get the catwalk reports and adapt the trends to reflect your style and shape. Strive to find pieces that enhance your best bits! 4. LOVELY COLOUR. This is important as we get older. A small, bright flash of colour with basic black, grey, chocolate or neutrals can lift any outfit. 5. PRINTS & PATTERNS. Use these sparingly. If you are big on top, wear prints on your bottom and vice versa. Designs will then draw attention away from your niggly area. 6. KEEP IT SIMPLE. Avoid fussy or busy. The word ‘elegant’ should be in mind even when wearing casual clothes. 7. A CLASSIC TALE. Classics work brilliantly, especially good-quality ones. The perfect white cotton shirt, cashmere sweaters and shapely tailoring are all big morale boosters. 8. DRESS TO IMPRESS. Don’t forget a fantastic dress. It is a great fashion garment at fifty and doesn’t always have to be of the ‘little black’ variety. 9. THOSE LITTLE EXTRAS. Less is more when wearing accessories. Let them make a single statement with your clothes rather than take over the show. 10. CLOTHES THAT WORK FOR YOU. Remember, if your clothes are wearing you rather than you wearing the clothes, something has gone wrong.
